Last Minute Gift Idea

I cannot believe Christmas is only 3 days away!  My how time flies.  I needed some last minute gifts to give to some kids and I thought since our youth is so into reading books (insert sarcasm here), that I would make some book markers.  I used an image that is from AiFactory as it's just a simple image that I printed in black and white, punched out with my scallop punch and added a jewel brad.  I tied the end of the ribbon with a button and ta da!  A book mark!  Hope you enjoy and don't forget to head over to AiFactory for some great digi images.  Happy Holidays!

December 2009 Artist Of The Month

I'm a big fan of folded books.  I even shared my first folded book project right here.  You can see the post here.
But I wanted to showcase Heather this month.  I am a big fan of Flickr, so many great artists post their photos of their artwork there.  That's where I met Heather and let me tell you, her folder books are gorgeous!
  I started doing folded books but nothing compared to her works of art.  They are amazing.  She also has an Etsy shop where you can purchase them!  Here a few of her works from her shop and you really should go visit the rest.

Stampin' Up! My Digital Studio

I recently bought My Digital Studio from Stampin' Up!  I had to try it out.  I had a blast making the 11 page scrapbook that took me less than an hour.  You can't do one that fast with traditional scrapbook materials.  It is of a two week road trip I took and this was just a half day!  I have a lot to scrap and this makes it so easy.  It's really not made for video playback but I had to show you how easy it was.  The quality of a scrapbook you order when your done is phenomenal.  I am not a Stampin' Up! demonstrator but I just got the software today and I love it!
You can order this great digital scrapbook and card making software by visiting Anne

From One Friend To Another

Vicki emailed me today and said she had a nice surprise for me on her blog.  I hopped over there to see what it was and it's a great award she gave me.  Vicki does such great work on her blog so go visit her too!
To receive this award I am supposed to write 5 things about myself so here goes.....

1.  I am a total Star Trek fan (pick yourself up from laughing please).
2.  I sometimes sit in my craft room and look around at all tons of stuff I am fortunate to have and still have no inspiration.
3.  Neil Diamond is my favorite singer well, next to Englebert Humperdinck (I'm only 39, so again, please pick yourself up from laughing please).
4.  I use PVA glue (the white Elmers kind) when I'm quilling.  I still like to rub some on the back of my hand, let it dry and peel it off like I did in grade school.
5.  I got my first bone folder in a kit and wouldn't use it because I thought it was really made of bone (kind of gave me the creeps) so I bought one that was plastic and later found out mine was plastic all along!

Now that I've had a blast writing these things about me, I'm going to share this with five friends.

Give their blogs a peek too!

Climate Change And Crafts

I know we don't think much about climate change when it comes to crafting but we should.  From the materials we use to the electricity we waste.  In my effort to help climate change when I craft today and hopefully in the future is to be conscience of using my heat gun as it gives off greenhouse gases and to make sure I am using recycled materials when I can. Those are just a few things I can do to help.  What can you do to help our environment when you are crafting?

Leave a comment and let me know.

Thanks! Monica

October Artist Of The Month

The artist of the month is the very talented Priyadarshini
Here's a little bit about her via our email interview:

My name is Priyadarshini. I am a married mother of 4yr old. I live in Pune, India. I like to learn and explore new art forms. I am always engrossed in making creative crafts by using Eco-friendly and handmade items. I love to gift them to my friends and family. I started learning arts and crafts as a hobby, but now it has become a passion.  I have also learned some of India’s fold art (Warli, Madhubani and Relief work Paintings) and international crafts (Paper Quilling, Punch Craft, Iris Folding, Lamasa).

I don’t have an art background but I like to experiment with the art forms I learn. I also follow some of the expert’s tutorials to get inspiration but I make sure that my work has originality.

I started my blog, Kalanirmitee July 2009. I want my blog to be a platform for sharing my craft ideas with all craft lovers.
Priyadarshini is also one of my great contributing writers and artists on Going Green Crafters & Artists.

Just wanted to let you know I am seeing a new doctor in Los Angeles, not too far from where I live in Albuquerque, and we are doing a surgery really soon.  So in case I'm not around that's why.  But I will try to post when I can.

Thank you all so much and see you soon!

Sandy Claws Card

Christmas being only 120 days away (yep, that's right, I said it) I thought I would make a Christmas card. The stamp is from Stampin' Up! and my little embellishment is some shells I tied together.

Do you think in this whole craft room I could find one stinkin' red brad??? NO! I ended up using a glue dot on a silver brad and covered it with red glitter. Ta Da! A red brad! It's in the center of the shells. Pretty sad that the hardest thing about this card was finding a red brad. You would have thought it would have been the coloring :) Enjoy!

Gorjuss Colors Of Fall

I think I really enjoy coloring! I am loving my Gorjuss stamps and I've only done two cards and I still have five other stamps to use! Here's a fall card, because fall is coming fast! I had a whole other idea for this card, but this is what I came up with. I wanted it to be simple so I matched her outfit with the flowers. I added some glitter to her stockings and flower in her hair but I don't think it came out that well in the photo. I hope you enjoy her!

Gorjuss Girls

I have been a fan of Suzanne Woolcott's work for some time. She also has a line of stamps that feature her Sugar Nellie Gorjuss Girls. I bought one of the stamp sets a long time ago and finally decided to use it. You would think that ordering something from the UK and waiting for it to come I would have used it right away. Nope, was too chicken.

Well I had this card that was given to me and I'm not one to throw pretty things away. I re-used the card by taking out the inside and putting Ms. Gorjuss right in the middle. I guess I was afraid to use them as you have to color!!! I felt like a little kid again. It was a blast! I hope you enjoy her!

Sense Of Time Pop Up Card

I'm not a Stampin' Up! demonstrator but once a month I go to a card class, group or swap (whatever you want to call it). It's hosted by my favorite Stampin' Up! demonstrator Anne. I wanted to share with you the most awesome card we did in her class! It folds up neatly and then ties with ribbon. Isn't it fabulous! If you want the tutorial you can see it on Anne's Blog and don't forget you can order all your Stampin' Up! stuff from her like I do!

AiFactory Digi Company & Group

I'm really.......I mean really new to digital stamping. But I have found AiFactory that has some awesomely cute digi's! I thought I would share them with you and you can go have a peek. They do wonderful giveaways and contests at the Ai Factory Vector Vault. I joined and have learned a lot! They have a blog too!

Twisted Thursday Challenge #22 (But It's A Saturday Post!)

I see A LOT of sketch challenges out there in blog land. I haven't given them much consideration......until now. I did do a few with another site but got pretty bored. I found S2G Challenges by way of Pat. What's nice about their challenges is that it's more than a sketch challenge, it's a "use something else" challenge with it. The challenges start every Thursday, but by the time I got around to doing this one it was Saturday!

This weeks challenge was to use the sketch but we also had to add something using our punches. I made a little butterfly in the bottom right corner by using a scallop punch and a tag punch. I ran some small ribbon around the stamped image to give it a little extra touch.

The image is also by Shirley's 2 Girls digi stamps. So there's a challenge and a place to buy your digi's. I am new to the digi world and I can't believe how much fun they are! Be nice though, remember, I'm new to digi's and my coloring is well, not so great.

Kreativ Blogger Award

I received two Kreativ Blogger awards today!! One was from Cindy and the other was from Vicki. That was very nice of both of you. Thank you!

To accept the award I have to do a few things:

1. Thank the person who nominated me for this award.
2. Copy the logo and place it on my blog.
3. Link the person who nominated me for this award.
4. Name seven things about me that people might find interesting. (OMG now I have to list 14!)
5. Nominate seven Kreativ Bloggers. (14 are going out!)
6. Post links to the seven blogs that I nominate. (Posting 14)
7. Leave comments on all seven blogs letting them know I nominated them. (14 comments coming!)

So here are my, not 7, but 14 things about me that people may find interesting (or not)!

1. I started quilling at the age of 7 when my Mom gave me a quilling kit. It was of an owl. Remember back in the 70's when owl's where all the rage! Well, I haven't stopped quilling ever since then.

2. Remember as a kid when everyone asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up? My Mom thought I would either become a prostitute or a nun! Thank goodness I am not a prostitute. A nun wouldn't have been so bad, but a prostitute! Thanks Mom!

3. Since my first two comments had to do with my Mom, here's what I think about her. She is my confidant, my support, my I can tell anything to person, and most of all she is my best friend.

4. I don't work at a "real job" any longer. I have Ménière's disease. You can click on the link if you want to know what it is. The link is Wikipedia's version as to not bore you too much. Usually it effects one ear, however mine is bilateral so I am losing hearing in both ears. I will eventually, and it's coming fast, be deaf. I spend a lot of time in bed due to this disease.

5. I have two dogs. One is a miniature pinscher and her name is Foster. She is 14 years old. And my other is a 6 year old italian greyhound that thinks he's human and acts like a spoiled 2 year old child. His name is Guido. (He is Italian after all).

6. I started doing video tutorials some time ago. When I'm doing them you don't know how many times I have to start over because I start laughing at some point in the video. Yes, I may look and sound calm, but inside I'm laughing like a little girl!

7. I look at other people's blogs and see their wonderful works of art, whether it be card making, quilling, or scrapbooking and think to myself every day...... when is my work going to be as good as theirs?

8. I lost my Dad 2 years ago and still am mad at him. I know God had other plans for him, but those plans should have included him staying here and being with us.

9. I write in a journal every day. Whether it be about my day or anything else. It doesn't matter so long as I put something in there. Sometimes I just doodle.

10. Oh, this is a big one.......... I absolutely do not like Pepsi! I am a true Coca-Cola lover. Oh and throw in a Mr. Goodbar and I'm good to go!

11. I make it a point that when I go out somewhere to talk to at least one person besides the cashier or employees. I don't think our world is friendly enough.

12. I wrote a book. No it's not published, but I did it. It's one of those things on my "have to do it once in my life" list.

13. Don't laugh too hard at this one, but I hate going to get the mail! I have one of those silver boxes that have all the little mail boxes in it. It's only 3 houses down but I hate walking over there to get it. My mail person sometimes will bring it to my house as he knows how much I hate to get it. I don't know why..........I just do.

14. Lastly, if you are still reading this :) I love making tutorials and writing on my blog as I hope it gives someone some inspiration on their next project.

Whew.........that was hard! Thank you again Cindy and Vicki!

Here are my 14 blogs that I am nominating:

See you soon!

Digi Stamps And Attempts With Color.......

I don't do much coloring as I'm learning with Prisma's. And now I found digi stamps! I found this one at Dustin's blog. My oh my, another thing to keep me occupied. I would be honored if you let me know what you think! Don't look too close.....I'm a person that tends to color outside of the lines......it's a good thing!

I made the pumpkin from a Stampin' Up! scallop punch and the leaves from the little leaves Stampin' Up! sizzlit die. The paper is from My Minds Eye, the stamp is from Making Memories and the ink is Colorbox Chalk Ink. It's such a fun pumpkin to make!

That means I have to quill lions and tigers and bears.....Oh My! OK, so I already did the bear :) you can find that one HERE. Thanks for watching!

~~~~~~~The Circle Of Friends Award~~~~~~~ But I'm A "Rebel" So Read On..................
It's funny how we write on our blogs and talk to other people through them. Also writing back and forth to each other and getting to know one another through email. Not even seeing the person face to face we get to know our fellow bloggers and their wonderful words of wisdom and works of art. Vicki sent me this wonderful award today and I wanted to say thank you. Not just to Vicki but to all of you. You all deserve this award. The "rules" for passing on this award are to give it to 5 fellow bloggers but really I couldn't decide. Me being the "rebel" I wanted to do something different. I would like anyone who is a blogger that sees this post to take this award and post it on their blog. Because if you are reading this, well in my eyes you are worthy of the award. Thanks again to Vicki, and thank you to everyone who visits! That all sounded like I got an Emmy Award or something huh? LOL
How To Quill Chocolates! Yummy!
I recently taught a quilling class and I showed everyone how to quill chocolates. You can put them on cards or place them in a cute little chocolate box. You can see the finished chocolates from my class on Anne's Blog. Hope you enjoy them, but don't eat them. After all, they are made out of paper!
July 2009 Artist Of The Month
I am still working hard on my house but wanted to make sure I give you July's artist of the month. Her name is Archana!
Here is one of her wonderful quilled cards. She lives in Mumbai India and here's a little about her from her profile:
"I am a hardcore fan of art and craft. Its been 3 years since I entered into this creative aspect of my life and then there was no looking back. I'm studying Interior Designing. I stay in Mumbai (India)with my family. Every morning as I wake up I gear up to learn as many new things as possible. Creative thinking is on my mind 24*7"
June 2009 Artist Of The Month
I wanted to start something new on my blog. Artist of the month. Now there's not a lot of us quiller's out there but I wanted to showcase some of the one's I've found. I think it's also important to showcase other paper artists as the months go by too!
I want to introduce my first artist of the month........
Her blog is Inna's Creations
Crafts for kids and parents
Here's one of her quilled creations:
Inna lives in Israel and is a stay at home mom. How she finds the time to do the amazing work she does is beyond me! Her quilling artwork is phenomenal! She also remembers to include children in her paper works as she adds things to her blog to help their young minds to be creative. She has a lot of tutorials for any age group. The work she does would be admired by the beginner or the expert. She is amazing! So thank you Inna for showing us your great works of art! Make sure to visit her blog HERE and her photos HERE.
If you would like to be featured in the upcoming months, just send me an email.
My favorite Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Anne had a great class on floating watercolor using embossing and a bit of water with some ink refills. The flowers came out amazing. The photo is one of the flowers that she created and you can see her tutorial HERE.
